Total Phosphate (TP) and Total Nitrogen (TN) are critical parameters in water quality monitoring. They are routinely measured in environmental laboratories worldwide, forming the foundation for evaluating nutrient levels in surface water, wastewater, drinking water, and more. However, the traditional manual methods for these analyses are labor-intensive, time-consuming, and prone to inconsistencies.
At Skalar, we’ve developed an innovative solution to overcome these challenges: the SAN++® continuous flow analyzer, equipped with fully automated TP and TN analysis, including in-line UV digestion. This system is built to increase productivity, enhance accuracy, and help laboratories meet international standards — without the burden of manual work.
Traditional TP and TN analysis involves complex sample digestion, dilution steps, and hands-on operation. This not only slows down the process but also increases the chance of human error. When labs are under pressure to deliver fast and reliable results, especially across large sample batches, the manual approach can quickly become a bottleneck.
Moreover, regulatory compliance adds another layer of complexity. Laboratories analyzing environmental samples are expected to comply with ISO 29441 (Total Nitrogen) and ISO 15681-2 (Total Phosphate). Achieving the required reproducibility and accuracy under these standards can be challenging with purely manual workflows.
The SAN++® analyzer provides a streamlined, fully automated approach to TP and TN analysis. The heart of the system is its in-line UV digestion module, which breaks down organic nitrogen and phosphorus compounds at high temperature (110 °C) and pressure using UV light. This process eliminates the need for manual digestion steps and ensures consistent results — even for samples containing suspended solids.
ISO-compliant for TN (ISO 29441) and TP (ISO 15681-2)
Direct analysis of particulate-rich samples
Automatic dilution of overrange samples and standard preparation
Sample mixing device for homogeneous uptake
Unattended overnight operation with automatic startup/shutdown
Scalable for combined analysis of ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, and o-phosphate
Skalar’s TP and TN methods have been thoroughly validated using QC standards and recovery benchmarks across multiple concentrations. In real sample comparisons, the SAN++® analyzer shows excellent correlation with reference methods, delivering reproducible results well within ISO-defined acceptance criteria (typically ±5%).
The flexibility of the SAN++® makes it ideal for:
Municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants
Environmental monitoring agencies
Water utility labs
Contract and research laboratories
Coastal and marine water studies
Whether analyzing drinking water, groundwater, seawater, or surface water, the SAN++® delivers reliable data with minimal user intervention.
